Making a Personnel Connection

Local employer Anderson Aeromotive:

"Grangeville is the perfect place to do this kind of work," says Ray Anderson. "It's got a good employee base, real estate is still reasonable up here and there's lots of good help out there."

So let’s talk about available people:

Between 1990 and 2010 the local working age population grew by 18%.  Given the counties’ scenic attractions, outdoor recreational opportunities, low housing costs, and low crime rates, the local labor market has the potential to attract many residents.  Industrial jobs—forestry and logging, mining, construction, utilities, manufacturing, wholesale, transportation, and warehousing—were especially hurt by the recession, so there are many folks with interest in manufacturing jobs looking for work.  Idaho and Lewis counties lost 202 industrial jobs—12 percent—from its 2007 peak until 2011.

Idaho has many residents, who are working in jobs for which they are overqualified or that offer them fewer hours of work (part-time jobs) or weeks of work (seasonal jobs) than they would prefer.  These folks are underemployed.  13% of the current work force is estimated to be underemployed in Idaho and Lewis counties.

This means growing and new employers have a skilled, quality and local workforce to choose from.
